I've eaten here four times during my latest trip to Thompson, and that's quite a bit considering that I've only been here for two and a half weeks, and this restaurant only opened about a month ago. It's always great to find a new place in Thompson to add to the rotation and this restaurant quickly jumped to the top of the list. The first three times I ate here I got lunch take-out, but today I had time for the lunch buffet for the first time.
For starters, I'm pretty sure these guys didn't intend to do lunch take-out, but considering that we usually have 8-10 people ordering at a time, they were very quickly willing to accommodate. Between those meals I had the large chicken vindaloo twice and the goat vindaloo once, each time with increasing spiciness. Each time I had a side of rice and a side of garlic naan. The quantity of food in a large (which is the middle size) was enough for me to have two meals, so I love ordering from here when I know I'm going to be stuck in the office super late. The flavor of every meal I've had has been outstanding. The spiciness level is not what I would expect from an Indian restaurant, but I think they know their audience well. Eventually I'll work my way up to the level that works for me. I preferred the chicken over the goat, but that was mostly just because I am lazy and didn't feel like picking out the bones.
Today I went in for the lunch buffet and as I am writing this review 8 hours later the thought of food still makes me feel a little bit sick. I ate enough for two to three people and then remembered I still had to finish the naan I had ordered. I can't remember the names of the different dishes other than the butter chicken (which was outstanding), but I do remember that my favorite was the lentil based dish. Needless to say, I loved all of it but I probably shouldn't go to the buffet again so I have better control over how much I eat.
Service-wise, they are all extremely friendly, but it seems like they are still working out the kinks. The buffet is as do-it-yourself as I've ever seen, down to the point of getting our own silverware and pouring our own water. They also seem to be learning how the register system works, but that'll work out over time. They have always been willing to work with us, and were very upfront about the fact that the menu was only about 60% ready while we were ordering from them a week or two after they opened. It's been nice to try new things as they get added to the menu.
Overall, I will definitely be eating here a few times a week while I'm in town, and I really hope they are still here next time I'm in Thompson. -
